Prague Sights, Sounds and Hotels
The Old Jewish Cemetery, perhaps the most intuitive of Prague's memorials is a hauntingly portentous sight. Burials took place in the cemetery from the early 15th century until 1787. Today it contains some 12,000visible tombstones, although that is a fraction of the number of persons buried here. The confined space forced graves to be added in layers, and it is alleged that the cemetery consists of several burial layers. The intricate bas-relief markers from the 17th and 18th centuries represent the names and professions of those buried there. The most prominent person buried in the Old Jewish Cemetery is the famed Rabbi Loew who died in 1609, and is attributed with creating the mythical Golem.
Prague's Old Jewish Cemetary is a poignant sight and certianly an eye opener as are many of Pragues sights. Check out this site if you need help booking Hotels in Prague
